Detoxify Your Body In One Easy Step

Everyone can use a little detoxification. Yes, our bodies naturally rid themselves of toxins via the kidneys, liver, lungs and skin, but sometimes your body needs a little assistance getting rid of the overwhelming build-up of toxins that your body can be exposed to in daily life.

Now, while massage therapy is a powerful tool for improving your overall health, it does not detoxify. But today I want to reveal a little tip I learned in massage school and have used for years that may help detoxify your body after your massage session: an Epsom salt bath.

Fun fact: Epsom salt is not a salt! It’s actually a natural pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate that has been considered a home remedy for hundreds of years for a number of ailments, including constipation, inflammation, stress and muscle aches, making an Epsom salt bath the perfect compliment to the glorious work-over done to your muscles after a massage, and it may help eliminate those toxins in one easy step.

Why?

Aided with sulfates, which are thought to flush out toxins and improve the absorption of nutrients, the combination can work wonders if absorbed through the skin.

While there is no research to support the claim that an epsom salt bath will actually detoxify your body, it is through my personal experience (and common practice in the industry) that an Epsom salt bath will leave you feeling even more relaxed and re-energized after a massage. With all of that improved blood circulation and reduced muscle tension, your body will be more responsive to the benefits of Epsom salt.

So let’s get to soaking!

Here’s what I like to do for my Epsom salt baths:

  • Pour yourself a nice, warm bath
  • Add 2 cups Epsom salt
  • Let it dissolve
  • Soak for a least 20 minutes

I also like to add a few drops of essential oils, like lavender or eucalyptus, to make the experience more relaxing! Give it a try and let me know how an Epsom salt bath made you feel! Happy Soaking!
